Air Conditioning Replacement

A properly designed, sized, and installed Air Conditioning System in your home can provide years of comfort for you and your family. If you are considering replacement of an existing Air Conditioning System, or having one installed for the first time, Shamrock is here to help!

There are many factors that determine the proper selection and sizing of an Air Conditioning System, including AFUE and SEER Ratings, the noise that the system creates, Single Package or Split System Central Air Conditioning, Ductless Air Conditioning, the square footage and configuration of your home, and the manufacturer you choose.

Air conditioning is actually a multi stage process. In addition to lowering the air temperature of your home or business, Air Conditioners recirculate and filter the air. Dehumidification, or removal of the humidity in the air eliminates the ‘sticky’ feeling that often accompanies hot weather, and enhances the cooling sensation of an Air Conditioning System.

The cooling capacity of Air Conditioning Systems is measured in BTU’s or British Thermal Units. A single BTU represents the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one pound of water by 1 (one) degree. By calculating the square footage of your home, along with the tons of BTU’s required, and the capacity of the Air Conditioning System, is the basis for a properly sized Air Conditioning Unit.

The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) determines the energy efficiency of your Air Conditioning Unit. Seer is determined by measure of the annual output of the unit in relation to it’s energy input. The higher the SEER Rating, the more efficient and environmentally friendly the Air Conditioning System is.

Single-Package Central Air Conditioning Systems are most commonly used in large buildings and plants. Their most common utilization is in commercial installations, and are generally mounted on rooftops.

Split System Central Air Conditioning is the most common type of residential air conditioning, and is generally used in conjunction with your furnace. These Air Conditioning Systems will generally use the same Thermostatic Control and Ducting as your furnace, and the unit will be “split” with part of the system being attached to the furnace. The ‘quiet’ part of the Air Conditioner is attached to the furnace, and the ‘noisy’ part located outside to minimize indoor noise levels.

A recognizable brand name is an important factor in choosing your system. As is the case with most major purchases, poor quality can quickly offset any money saved from your initial purchase price.
